Whether you make the cake from scratch or out of a box, make sure there is about 19 oz. of cake batter to be able to fill each cone. Fill each ice cream cone about 75% full of cake batter (batter should come up to the first ridge). Set filled cones either in the cups of a muffin tin or on cookie sheets.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until the toothpick inserted in the middle of one of the cakes comes out clean.
Sprinkle each cake top with chocolate chips while it’s still warm. The chips will melt and look like icing. Spread over the top of the cake evenly with a knife. Decorate with sprinkles or candies.
